Dr Faiz Noore

Dr Faiz Noore is a Specialist Pain Medicine Physician and Consultant Psychiatrist. He completed his medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Sydney and went on to receive further qualifications including a Master of Medicine in Psychotherapy from the same institution. Dr Noore trained in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Westmead Hospital, Sydney and St Mary’s Hospital, London, specializing in mental health problems among patients with complex medical and surgical conditions. He has a special interest in the psychotherapy of individuals with personality difficulties.

Dr Noore is a fellow of both the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FFPMANZCA). He has a passion for teaching and has trained doctors in Psychiatry and Pain Medicine. He has held the position of Supervisor of all the Supervisors of Training for the Faculty of Pain Medicine and contributed to the development of the 2015 curriculum for Pain Medicine training in Australia and New Zealand.

Dr Noore practices within an integrated multidisciplinary team that includes Interventional Pain Physicians, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, and the Sydney Spine & Pain Rehab Multidisciplinary Pain Management Team. He has expertise in the treatment of chronic pain, psychiatric disorders, and chronic pain complicated by opioid use disorder. His special interests include neuropathic pain, complex spinal pain, persistent postoperative pain, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), and failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS).

In his approach to treatment, Dr Noore emphasizes rational medication prescribing and works collaboratively with patients to help them gradually reduce their reliance on opioid medications. He does not promote the prescribing of opioid analgesics for patients. He also utilizes medical therapy for chronic pain patients who have become opioid dependent as a result of chronic opioid therapy. Additionally, Dr Noore employs pain neuroscience education, cognitive-behavioral therapy for chronic pain, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy to provide comprehensive care for his patients.
