Dr Asim Khokhar

Dr Asim Khokhar is an Australian trained specialist gastroenterologist and therapeutic endoscopist based in the South Brisbane and Redland Bay region. With a wealth of experience in general gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease, general hepatology, and gastrointestinal endoscopy, he has honed his skills through training in various tertiary hospitals across North and Southeast Queensland.

Dr Khokhar is a strong advocate for quality in endoscopy, and has completed a fellowship in luminal gastrointestinal endoscopy. He is highly skilled and experienced in the resection of large colonic polyps using specialised techniques such as endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). As a result, he is able to provide high-quality patient care with a holistic approach and excellent communication skills.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Khokhar is actively involved in teaching medical students and physician trainees as a senior lecturer affiliated with The University of Queensland. Furthermore, he holds a permanent part-time public appointment as a staff specialist gastroenterologist at Redland Hospital.

In terms of qualifications, Dr Khokhar obtained his Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan in 2008. He subsequently achieved certification from the Australian Medical Council (AMC) in 2012. His pursuit of excellence in the field led him to attain the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in the Adult Medicine Division in 2021.

Dr Khokhar has made significant contributions to the field through his research and publications. Notably, he has published an article discussing the use of Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunts for Hepatorenal Syndrome. Additionally, he has presented abstracts at various conferences including the Australasian Gastrointestinal Week (AGW) in 2018 and 2019.

While Dr Khokhar's primary interests lie in inflammatory bowel disease, colonoscopy, and endoscopy, he also specialises in quality gastrointestinal endoscopy, prevention and screening for gastrointestinal and colorectal cancer, coeliac disease, eosinophilic osteoarthritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD), and general hepatology.
