Dr Yi Zhao

Dr Yi Chen Zhao is an experienced ENT Head and Neck Surgeon with a special interest in rhinology. After graduating with first-class honors from Monash University, he completed his basic surgical training and earned his PhD from the University of Melbourne, where he focused on the practical application of simulation in ENT education and training. Yi completed his specialist ENT Head and Neck training through various rotations at leading Victorian metropolitan hospitals before undertaking sub-specialist fellowship training in the management of nose and paranasal sinus disease with Professor PJ Wormald, one of the world’s foremost authorities in the field of rhinology. He then trained in endoscopic skull base surgery at the Ohio State University James Wexner Cancer Centre USA with Professor Ricado Carrau.

Currently, Yi holds the position of Head of Rhinology Services at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and is a consultant surgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he works as an integral part of the anterior skull base team with neurosurgeons, treating conditions such as pituitary tumors and CSF leaks. Moreover, he is involved in several research projects and clinical trials in his area of expertise. As a result of his extensive experience, he has been accepted as a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and is also a member of several professional societies, including the Australasian Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, the Australian New Zealand Rhinological Society, and the Australasian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.

Yi is committed to sharing his knowledge and expertise with the next generation of ENT surgeons, teaching and examining future ENT surgeons at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne and regularly presents and teaches at both national and international meetings. Yi has also published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and authored book chapters. With his experience and skills, Dr Yi Chen Zhao is a highly qualified and dedicated medical professional, committed to improving the health and wellbeing of his patients.
