Dr Vanitha Budhavaram

Dr Vanitha Budhavaram, also known as Dr Bud, is an experienced Oncoplastic Breast and General Surgeon who is dedicated to providing high-quality care to breast cancer patients. With a focus on offering easy access and a clear process, Dr Bud has developed a unique ‘Breast Care Bundle’ that ensures patients have known and capped costs for their treatment, including surgery and adjuvant therapy such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and physiotherapy appointments. The bundle scheme also includes a patient navigator to provide much-needed support throughout the patient’s treatment journey.

Dr Bud’s approach to patient management involves a multidisciplinary team of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, psychologists, breast nurses, and allied health staff. By optimizing a standard of care pathway and focusing on individual patient needs, the team can ensure that patients receive the best practice guidelines that they need.

Dr Bud understands that being diagnosed with breast cancer can be incredibly challenging, and she is committed to collaborating with other health professionals to make the journey as smooth and stress-free as possible for her patients. She offers clear instructions on aftercare, easy access and review if required, and a final pathology and treatment plan formulated in a week.

Dr Bud has an impressive background in breast cancer and oncoplastic surgery. She is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a full member of BreastSurgANZ, as well as a GESA accredited endoscopist. She has undergone accredited oncoplastic breast surgery training under BreastSurgANZ at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth and obtained her Masters in Breast Surgery from the University of Sydney.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Bud is the Head of Breast Surgery Services at Royal Perth Hospital, providing Breast and General surgical services at Fiona Stanley Hospital and St John of God, Midland Hospital. She is also the Director of Clinical Training (Surgery) at Royal Perth Hospital, where she mentors surgical fellows, trainees, and medical students. Dr Bud has published numerous papers relating to breast cancers and general surgical conditions and is a member of the Breast Cancer Trials Group (BCT) and the Australian Society for Breast Diseases (ASBD).
