Professor Havas is a distinguished Otolaryngologist in Australia with over three decades of experience in the field. He is recognized for his expertise in Head & Neck Oncology, Laryngology and Voice Disorders, and Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology. In addition, he is skilled in Cosmetic and Functional Rhinology surgery for snoring and sleep disorders. Professor Havas commenced his professional career after completing his fellowship in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery with the Australian College of Surgeons in 1984. He proceeded to Edinburgh, Scotland for further training and was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. He later trained in Toronto, Canada, in Pediatric Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Oncology.
Professor Havas is a fellow of the College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons. In 2004, he was conferred with a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of New South Wales. Since returning to Australia in 1987, he has held various academic positions, the most prominent being the Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the Prince of Wales Hospital and Sydney Hospital. He is also a Professorial appointee of the University of NSW and was Senior Otolaryngologist at Sydney Children’s Hospital between 1988 and 2009.
Apart from his academic role, Professor Havas has contributed immensely to the field of otolaryngology, authoring over 80 publications, textbook chapters and featuring in numerous teaching videos and monograms. He has further presented his research at over 150 national and international meetings.
