Dr Stephen Williams

Dr Stephen Williams is a highly skilled and experienced Gastroenterologist based in Westmead, Sydney. He is currently working as a Senior Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Westmead Hospital. Dr Williams also holds several honorary positions, including being a therapeutic endoscopy consultant at Westmead's Children's Hospital, a VMO at Southern Highlands Private Hospital, and Rosemont Endoscopy Centre.

With a career spanning over four decades, Dr Williams brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his practice. He has served as the Head of Department and Director of Endoscopy at Westmead Hospital, showcasing his strong leadership and management skills. Dr Williams has also held the esteemed position of Chairman of the Australian Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Association (AGEA), further demonstrating his commitment to advancing the field of Gastroenterology.

Specialising in Gastroenterology and Therapeutic Endoscopy, Dr Williams has a particular interest in managing and treating conditions such as large colonic polyps, as well as biliary and pancreatic diseases. He possesses a deep understanding of the role of endoscopy in both diagnosis and treatment, and his dedication to training future gastroenterologists at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels has solidified him as an expert in his field.

Dr Williams is passionate about mentoring and training registrars and fellows in the art and science of endoscopy. He has convened and participated in numerous endoscopy workshops for fellow gastroenterologists at the tertiary level, contributing to the growth and development of the field. Furthermore, his research interests have led him to achieve a Doctorate in Medicine (MD) from Sydney University and publish over 110 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has also been invited to present his findings at various national and international conferences, further establishing his reputation as a respected researcher and speaker.
