Dr Samantha Mooney

Dr Samantha Mooney is a highly skilled and compassionate Gynaecologist based in Heidelberg, Melbourne. With a strong focus on providing evidence-based and personalized care, she is dedicated to supporting her patients and their families throughout their pregnancy journey. Dr Mooney is known for creating a calm and personal atmosphere, ensuring that her patients feel comfortable and well-informed.

Dr Mooney obtained her medical degree with first-class honours from the University of New South Wales in 2010. After completing her internship at the Austin Hospital, she went on to earn a Master's of Reproductive Medicine and Fellowship of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. During her training, she gained valuable experience working at reputable institutions such as the Mercy Hospital for Women, Albury-Wodonga Health, Sunshine Hospital, and Western Health's Maternal and Fetal Medicine Unit.

As part of her commitment to advancing her expertise, Dr Mooney completed a two-year fellowship in advanced minimally invasive gynaecology accredited by the Australian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery Society (AGES). This specialised training has equipped her with advanced skills in minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Currently, Dr Mooney holds public positions at both Mercy Hospital for Women and Sunshine Hospital, where she practices in both obstetrics and gynaecology. She is actively involved in clinical research, with a particular interest in pelvic pain and endometriosis, hysteroscopic techniques, and surgical education. Dr Mooney is part of a research team that was recently awarded a substantial grant to support ongoing investigation into the diagnosis and management of endometriosis and pelvic pain.

In addition to her clinical and research work, Dr Mooney is passionate about education and supports junior doctors in their pursuit of knowledge in women's health. She takes on the responsibility of tutorship and mentoring for several candidates pursuing the Certificate and Diploma of Women's Health at Mercy Hospital for Women. Dr Mooney's dedication to her field was recognized when she received the Inaugural AGES/Hologic Travelling Fellowship for Hysteroscopic Surgery in 2020.

Dr Mooney currently conducts consultations at the rooms located at Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg. While she performs gynaecological surgeries at Epworth Freemasons and Warringal Private, she currently exclusively offers private obstetric care at Mercy Hospital for Women.

Outside of her professional life, Dr Mooney enjoys spending quality time outdoors with her husband, two children, and their beloved pet, Mr Pinot. She has a passion for cycling and indulges in post-ride ice-cream rewards.
