Dr Ruban Thanigasalam

Dr Ruban Thanigasalam is an accomplished consultant Urological Surgeon, who has been trained in the UK and Australia. He holds a medical degree (MB BS) from the University of London and completed his advanced surgical training in Urological Surgery in New South Wales. He was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Australasian Surgeons (FRACS (Urology)) in 2013. Dr Thanigasalam is Associate Professor of Robotic Surgery at the Institute of Academic Surgery (University of Sydney), where he teaches and mentors medical students and trainee surgeons.

Dr Thanigasalam is an accomplished researcher, who holds a Masters of Surgery degree (MS) from the University of Sydney. He completed a two-year research fellowship at the internationally recognized Garvan Institute of medical research and the University of Sydney. His work on clinical outcomes for patients undergoing treatment for localised prostate cancer earned him the prestigious John Loewenthal medal from the University of Sydney. He has published extensively in multiple peer-reviewed Urology journals and presented innovative research at international Urology scientific meetings.

Dr Thanigasalam is trained in General Urology and has sub-specialised in laparoscopic, robotic and laser surgery. He honed his skills by completing a two-year clinical Fellowship in Paris under the tutelage of the internationally renowned surgeon Monsieur Herve Baumert, who is one of Europe's most highly regarded robotic and laparoscopic surgeons. He was personally trained by Monsieur Baumert in robotic, laparoscopic and laser prostate surgery.
