A/Prof Peter Bampton

A/Prof Peter Bampton is an exceptionally skilled Gastroenterologist specialising in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colonoscopy. He currently holds the position of Head of Luminal Gastroenterology at Flinders Medical Centre and Associate Professor of Gastroenterology at Flinders University of South Australia.

After completing his medical degree from the University of Adelaide in 1988, A/Prof Bampton underwent specialist training in Gastroenterology, obtaining his qualification in 1996. Additionally, he earned a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of New South Wales, where his thesis focused on colonic physiology.

A/Prof Bampton's sub-specialty interest lies in inflammatory bowel disease, and he played a prominent role in establishing the Southern Adelaide IBD Service. He was also a founding member of the national executive of IBD Australia. His expertise extends to colorectal and esophageal cancer prevention, having developed the SCOOP and BOSS recall programs at Flinders Medical Centre, Repatriation General Hospital, and Southern GI Services. These programs have gained national recognition as high-quality surveillance initiatives.

Notably, A/Prof Bampton has served as an elected member of the council of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia, the national body for gastroenterology in Australia.
