Dr Michael Treffene

Dr Treffene's expertise lies in upper limb surgery, particularly in the areas of hand and wrist, microsurgery of the hand, and elbow and shoulder surgeries. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Queensland in 1991, and subsequently received his FRACS in Orthopaedic Surgery from the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2001.

Dr Treffene further honed his skills in hand surgery by completing a Fellowship at the prestigious Pulvertaft Hand Centre at the Royal Derby Hospital in the UK. Upon returning to Australia, he established his private orthopaedic practice in Ipswich in 2002, where he has served as a Visiting Orthopaedic Surgeon at St Andrew’s Ipswich and Ipswich Hospital.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Treffene actively participates in medical education. He regularly teaches medical students, trainees, and other healthcare professionals, and contributes to the education, research, and trial examinations of the Australian Orthopaedic Association's trainees.

Dr Treffene's private practice in Ipswich offers a range of services, including minor procedures under local anaesthetic for patients without private cover. These procedures include carpal tunnel release and trigger finger release. He also collaborates with EKCO Hand and Occupational Therapy Practice.

As a member of the Queensland Hand Surgery Society and the Queensland Shoulder Society, Dr Treffene is committed to providing comprehensive and specialized care to his patients. His practice is conveniently located opposite St Andrew’s Ipswich Hospital, ensuring easy accessibility for those seeking his expertise.
