Dr. Michael Suen is a Colorectal and Pelvic Floor Specialist, known for his advanced and minimally invasive procedures for colorectal and pelvic floor management. He specialises in colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases, complex proctology conditions, defecatory disorders and anal incontinence. Dr. Suen completed his medical degree from the University of New South Wales and pursued training in surgery across several surgical units in NSW. After obtaining a surgical fellowship, he continued to pursue his passion for colorectal and pelvic floor surgery. Dr. Suen undertook further study in Master of Surgery in Colorectal Surgery from the University of Sydney with his dissertation on the management of bowel obstruction from bowel cancer using colonic stent. He also received specialized training for colorectal fellowship with Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ). Dr. Suen's innovative skills and passion for precision have led him to spearhead the Concord Repatriation General Hospital's Colorectal Unit with his expertise. He has revolutionized colorectal management by advocating and establishing bowel cancer prehabilitation programs and an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Program (ERAS). Dr. Suen is a pioneer in treating complex proctology conditions by using modern minimally invasive procedures such as Haemorrhoidal Artery Ligation-Rectal Anal Repair (HAL-RAR) and Video-Assisted Anal Fistula Treatment + Over The Scope Clip (VAAFT + OTSC). Dr. Suen also specialises in analyzing comprehensive anorectal physiology assessment to make accurate diagnoses for all defecatory disorders and anal incontinence. Apart from his clinical proficiency, Dr. Suen has been committed to clinical education and research for a long time. He is a senior lecturer at the University of Sydney, and Supervisor for Board of Surgical training, dedicating his time to teaching young doctors. Dr. Suen is also an active speaker at several conferences, sharing his proficiency with surgical procedures. Dr. Suen is involved in driving research projects with the Cancer Council and promoting colorectal health in the community. He is available for consultation at two locations in NSW, namely the Digestive Pelvic Floor Centre and Academix Specialists Centre. Dr. Suen's special interests include minimally invasive bowel cancer surgery, screening colonoscopy, complex proctology conditions, and faecal incontinence.
