Dr Megan Lyle

Dr Megan Lyle is a highly skilled Medical Oncologist specialising in cancer immunotherapy, melanoma, skin cancers, gastrointestinal cancers, and gynaecologic cancers. She currently practices at the Liz Plummer Cancer Care Centre at Cairns Hospital, Response Oncology, and Cairns Private Hospital, where she provides exceptional care to her patients. Dr Lyle also holds an adjunct senior lecturer post at James Cook University.

Having spent several years of her childhood in Cairns, Dr Lyle has a unique connection to the area. She completed her secondary education at Trinity Anglican School before obtaining her Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Newcastle in 2002. She then pursued her medical oncology advanced training in Newcastle, NSW, and was awarded a Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2013.

In 2013-2014, Dr Lyle undertook a clinical research fellowship at the Melanoma Institute Australia in Sydney, where she gained extensive experience in clinical research. Her research findings have been presented at national and international conferences, including the Society for Melanoma Research Congress and the American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting. She has also published her work in major international peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Since returning to Cairns in 2014 with her husband and family, Dr Lyle has been actively involved in improving the quality of care and access to therapies for cancer patients in Far North Queensland. She has established a robust oncology research department and serves as the principal investigator on several Phase 1-3 clinical trials for cancer patients. Dr Lyle has also implemented the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia Tele-Trial Model to facilitate trial access for regional Australians.

In addition to her clinical and research activities, Dr Lyle chairs the Cairns Hospital High Risk Skin/Melanoma MDT and the Oncology Clinical Research Meeting. She is deeply committed to ensuring that all her patients receive equitable treatment, regardless of their location in Australia.
