Dr Julia Kirby

Julia is a highly accomplished orthopaedic surgeon with extensive training and experience in sports medicine and paediatric orthopaedics. After obtaining her medical degree at the University of Adelaide, Julia completed her surgical residency and internship at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. She also holds a Masters of Sports Medicine from the University of Queensland where she received the Dean's commendation for academic excellence. Julia has completed multiple prestigious fellowships in Australia and the United States, including a sub-specialist knee surgery Fellowship at Epworth Hospital in Melbourne and a Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

Julia has developed expertise in managing child and adolescent sporting injuries, with a particular focus on knee ligament, cartilage and patellofemoral pathology in skeletally immature patients. She is also an experienced trauma surgeon, having completed an Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship at Austin Health. Her passion for medical research is reflected in her numerous published articles in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals, and her active participation in international collaborative research projects focusing on tibial spine fractures and meniscal pathology, through her membership in the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society (PRiSM) in the USA. She also serves as a peer reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM) and the Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine (OJSM).

As a passionate educator, Julia is committed to mentoring and teaching junior staff, and holds a public appointment at Austin Health. Her remarkable career achievements and dedication to advancing medical education have earned her a respected reputation in the field, both in Australia and abroad.
