Dr Jonathan Foo

Jonathan Foo is a highly skilled Upper Gastrointestinal, Bariatric, and General Surgeon with expertise in treating reflux, hiatal hernia, gallbladder disease, and abdominal wall hernias. He is a dedicated practitioner providing care at the Upper Gastrointestinal Unit at the renowned Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Hollywood Private Hospital in Perth. In addition, he has a keen interest in gastro-oesophageal cancer and bariatric surgery.

Jonathan began his medical career by earning his undergraduate degree, MBChB, from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He went on to obtain a PhD in bariatric surgery, receiving the Clinical Research Training Fellowship from the Health Research Council of New Zealand. His thesis was highly recognized, winning him several prestigious academic awards.

Jonathan continued honing his skills by completing various fellowships, including ANZGOSA advanced oesophago-gastric and bariatric fellowships and participating in an invited observership at the National Cancer Institute in Tokyo. In addition, he spent three years receiving high-volume training in advanced oesophago-gastric and bariatric surgery at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, the Austin Hospital in Melbourne, and the Royal Victoria Infirmary in the UK.

Jonathan is a highly sought-after speaker at medical conferences, has published several key medical articles on his surgical specialties, and is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia. He is a Member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers in Edinburgh and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in the UK.

Above all, Jonathan strives for surgical excellence and prioritises his patients' quality of life following their surgery. He offers advice to GPs prior to referrals, accepts urgent appointments within the week, and also makes phone consultations available for follow-up visits.
