Dr Jai Kumar

Dr Jai Kumar is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in disorders of the knee and shoulder. With a special interest in the diagnosis, management, and return to maximum function of athletes, Dr Kumar provides comprehensive care for his patients.

Born and raised in Newcastle, Dr Kumar completed his orthopaedic training in New South Wales. During his training, he served as the president of the Australian Orthopaedic Registrars Association and also participated in charitable work with Orthopaedic Outreach, providing orthopaedic surgery and education in Bali, Tonga, and Fiji.

Afterward, Dr Kumar worked at The Maitland Hospital in the Hunter Valley before embarking on arthroscopic sports fellowships across Europe. He spent twelve months at the Sports Surgery Clinic in Dublin, Ireland, where he gained valuable experience in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports and orthopaedic disorders.

Dr Kumar believes in the importance of a team approach to patient management. He recognizes that every step, from the initial referral to the final rehabilitation, is crucial for an efficient and effective return to pre-injury function. Dr Kumar further expanded his expertise by visiting renowned facilities in France, Belgium, Austria, Scotland, and England, where he learned the latest techniques in knee and shoulder surgery and arthroscopic management of sporting injuries.

Now, Dr Kumar brings his extensive knowledge and advanced techniques to the people of Newcastle and the Hunter Valley through the Hunter Knee + Shoulder Clinic. His passion for helping athletes and individuals with knee and shoulder problems drives him to provide the best possible care for his patients.
