Dr Herath Suraj Rathnayake

Suraj Rathnayake is an experienced General Surgeon who earned his MD in Surgery from the University of Peradeniya in 2011, followed by Board certification as a Specialist in 2013. He also achieved MRCS in England and completed a fellowship in minimal access surgery in India. Furthermore, Dr. Rathnayake worked as a Consultant General Surgeon in Sri Lanka for four years before moving to Australia. Currently, he practices at the Royal Darwin Hospital where he obtained his FRACS in 2020. Dr. Rathnayake's interest and expertise in laparoscopic surgery distinguishes him as an accredited GESA gastroscopy and colonoscopy provider. In addition to diagnostic and therapeutic scopes, he performs laparoscopic/open inguinal hernia and abdominal hernia operations, open and laparoscopic colorectal surgeries, and haemorrhoidectomy and fistula surgeries. Dr Rathnayake is also experienced in general surgery and is equipped to perform gallbladder, appendix, skin lesions, thyroid, vasectomy, and other scrotal surgeries. Furthermore, he provides consultations and advice on the spectrum of surgical conditions in children within the limits of credentialing and scope of practice in regional hospitals. Dr Rathnayake is adept in a wide range of surgical procedures, including laparoscopic surgery and scopes, and takes pride in using his skills to benefit his patients.
