Dr G. Mark Malouf is a highly skilled surgeon with a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins and venous disease. Born in Sydney, Australia, he graduated from The Sydney University School of Medicine in 1976 with an MB,BS (Hons II) medical degree. After completing his training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, he was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 1983. Dr Malouf then spent three years in England conducting research on varicose vein treatments while also practicing at St Mary's Hospital, London. His research yielded several papers on the subject, and he was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 1984.
Upon returning to Sydney in 1985, Dr Malouf set up his private practice with a focus on varicose vein treatments. He was elected as the secretary of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Phlebology in 1988 and was subsequently elected President in 2000, a position he still holds. He participated in the clinical trial to bring Aethoxysklerol to Australia and New Zealand as a new solution for treating varicose veins using injections from 1992 to 1997.
Dr Malouf has attended numerous international congresses of phlebology as both a faculty member/speaker and an executive in various countries, including France, Germany, the USA, Italy, Greece, New Zealand, India, Argentina, Brazil, Portugal, Japan and Turkey. He held the post of International Vice-President of the Union Internationale de Phlébologie (UIP) from 2005 to 2009. He remains active in research, regularly presenting his findings at national and international conferences. Dr Malouf also teaches medical students and surgical trainees in local venous workshops.
Dr Malouf's extensive training and expertise have helped him develop a well-rounded and broad-minded approach to his practice. He enjoys considerable success through word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied patients and General Practitioners. He continues to attend international vein meetings to bring the latest ideas and treatment methods back to Australia, never losing sight of his ultimate goal of helping his patients achieve better health.
