Prof Frank Monsour

Professor Monsour is a highly respected Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon with national and international recognition in his surgical discipline. He has led the development of the Specialty of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, guiding it to Principal Medical Specialty recognition in Australia and New Zealand for many years. He played a pivotal role in developing Queensland Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Training Program and Hospital Units into internationally acclaimed training facilities contributing greatly to improving the quality of surgical care in Australia.

Professor Monsour's contribution to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was acknowledged with Honorary Life Membership by the Australian & New Zealand Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (ANZAOMS). As a testament to his contribution to public health in Queensland, his achievements were selected for inclusion in the Time Capsule buried at the new Royal Brisbane/Women’s Hospital site in Brisbane.

In addition to his involvement in surgical disciplines, Professor Monsour also had an extensive military career that spanned several years. His service culminated in his appointment as a senior "Colonel Consultant" within the Office of the Surgeon General in the Australian Defence Force, where he was awarded the Reserve Force Decoration (RFD) in recognition of his contribution to the military service.

Professor Monsour's services to the wider Australian community have also been highly recognized, with numerous honors and awards bestowed upon him, including the high honor of an Order of Australia (AM). In recognition of his accomplishments in the field of Cancer research and his contribution to the University and wider community, he was awarded the honorary title of Admiral of The Great Navy of the State of Nebraska by the Governor in 1976.

Currently, Professor Monsour holds the position of a Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Queensland, continually contributing to the education and training of the next generation of Oral & Maxillofacial surgeons.
