Dr Terence Alexander

Dr. Terence Alexander is a highly accomplished Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with over three decades of experience in the field. He completed his Bachelor of Dental Science at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1987, setting the foundation for his career in dentistry. He was then awarded the PROSSA prize for clinical fixed prosthodontics and the Lester Brown award in Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery for his excellent academic and clinical achievements. After his military service, he completed a fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in South Africa in 1995 and a Master's degree in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1997. Dr. Alexander’s extensive training and experience in South Africa exposed him to various severe maxillofacial injuries, gunshot injuries, advanced oral pathology, reconstructive surgery, oral surgery, dental implantology, and orthognathic surgery. He entered private practice in 1995, with a clinical interest in orthognathic surgery and joined the staff in the division of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery the same year as a part-time consultant in Orthognathic surgery. He became the head of the Orthognathic Surgery unit at the Johannesburg Hospital in 2000, which lasted until he and his family immigrated to Australia in 2008. Upon arriving in Australia, Dr. Alexander obtained registration as an Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon and began working in private practice in Brisbane in 2010. In addition to his private practice, he has an appointment as a senior lecturer and course coordinator in the Discipline of Oral Surgery, School of Dentistry, at the University of Queensland. Dr. Alexander actively mentors and encourages young students starting their professional careers and has presented numerous lectures to students at the University of Queensland and at Griffith University, covering orthognathic surgery, pre-prosthetic surgery, salivary gland conditions, oral surgery, and dental implantology. Dr. Alexander’s expertise has been strongly influenced by his peers and attendance at local and international meetings, particularly in the field of orthognathic surgery. He enjoys interacting and sharing his passion for life-changing orthognathic surgery with undergraduate and postgraduate colleagues alike. Throughout his career, Dr. Alexander has earned several accolades, such as PROSSA prize for clinical fixed prosthodontics, Lester Brown award in Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery, and the Medal of the South African Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons for the most outstanding candidate in the final fellowship examination.
