MBBS, FRACS
Benjamin Keong, a highly experienced consultant upper gastrointestinal, bariatric and general surgeon, graduated with an MBBS from the University of Melbourne in 2003. Following this, he completed his residency and general surgical training at the Austin Hospital, Heidelberg. In 2012, he became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) after completing his surgical training. Later, he undertook four years of post-fellowship training at Box Hill Hospital and St George Hospital in Sydney. During this highly competitive post-fellowship national Upper GI training program led by the Australia and New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association (ANZGOSA), he gained experience in managing benign and malignant gastric, oesophageal, and pancreatic conditions.
Among his valuable experience, a fellowship at St George Hospital's Bariatric Centre of Excellence informed his knowledge of bariatric surgery, including handling potentially serious complications. He also has vast experience in emergency and elective general surgery and is GESA-accredited for endoscopy. Additionally, Benjamin recognizes the importance of teaching and has been involved in medical student and registrar teaching at Eastern Health and a faculty member of the ASSET course for the College of Surgeons.
To Benjamin, patients are partners in healthcare decision-making, and he believes that collaborating with them will help attain the best possible outcome. He also acknowledges the significance of the patient's GP and considers them as a central part of the team responsible for their long-term health. Benjamin is available to provide advice anytime to ensure the best possible healthcare outcomes for his patients.
