A city in Queensland, Mount Isa, came into existence mainly due to the vast deposits of minerals found in this region. The city is best known to be the most productive single mine globally. It produces zinc, copper, silver and lead. As per the census of June 2018, the city had a population of 18,588. The city is also known as ‘The Isa’.
Major Attractions Mount Isa is often referred to as ‘Rodeo Capital of Australia’ for Mardi Gras and The Mount Isa Rodeo. There is a memorial built especially for the Rodeo, with unique monuments embedded in cement.
Another annual event is The Glencore Mount Isa Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic, a freshwater fishing event held in Queensland.
Living in Mount Isa Mount Isa offers all the facilities necessary for a comfortable living. Sports is a popular activity in the region. Common sporting events enjoyed here are soccer, rugby league, gymnastics, athletics, netball and cricket. September is the month of festivities in the area, primarily because of the annual multicultural festival.
History of Mount Isa Once home to the Kalkadoon aboriginal tribe, Mount Isa is slowly developing into a prosperous city. On 1st August 1924, the first post office of the city opened. In 1929, the location of the hospital was formally selected. In 1972, the city was in the news once more when a group of crocodiles were discovered underground in a mine.
