Dr Swati Mukherjee is a highly skilled and experienced Cardiologist based in Dandenong North, Victoria, Australia. With a focus on women's cardiovascular health, Dr Mukherjee is particularly interested in myocardial infarction secondary to conditions unique to women or seen more often in women, such as Sub acute coronary dissection (SCAD) and Takotsubo cardiomyopathy.
Dr Mukherjee began her medical career by completing her MBBS and internship in Brisbane. She then underwent postgraduate medical training at renowned hospitals including The Alfred, Frankston, Geelong, and Box Hill Hospitals in Melbourne. In 2004, she was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians.
Driven by her passion for research, Dr Mukherjee received a postgraduate medical research scholarship from the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, as well as the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). She successfully completed her PhD at Monash University, focusing on her area of expertise at The Alfred Hospital.
To further enhance her skills and knowledge, Dr Mukherjee pursued a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology in 2009 at The Hull and East Yorkshire NHS trust in the United Kingdom.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr Mukherjee is actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical graduates at Monash University. As a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences, she plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Dr Mukherjee is a distinguished member of several medical associations, including the Royal Australian College of Physicians and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. She is also an active participant in Women in Innovation and The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, in Washington.
With ongoing clinical research commitments at Alfred and Cabrini Institute, Dr Mukherjee remains at the forefront of medical advancements. Her research interests include the role of oxidative stress in clinical presentations of coronary artery disease, coronary intervention, and age and gender-based issues in interventional cardiology.
