Dr Suzanne Cartwright

Dr Suzanne Cartwright is a Specialist Anaesthetist and Specialist Pain Medicine Physician. After completing medical school at Flinders University in 2006, Dr Cartwright undertook her internship and RMO years at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, before completing her anaesthesia training in Adelaide and Alice Springs from 2008-2013. Encouraged to consider pain medicine training, she moved to Victoria to undertake training through the Faculty of Pain Medicine in Geelong and Melbourne, where she was awarded a Merit award at the 2014 examination. Dr Cartwright holds formal qualifications as both a Specialist Anaesthetist (FANZCA) and a Specialist Pain Medicine Physician (FFPMANZCA).

Dr Cartwright sees patients in private practice with all types of persistent pain. She works with each patient to help them achieve better function and quality of life through pain management strategies that are tailored to the individual. Dr Cartwright has experience in managing pain using various techniques, including interventional, pharmacological, psychological and physical strategies. She also works closely with allied health practitioners to enhance these strategies. Dr Cartwright has a particular interest in seeing patients before surgery who are at risk of developing persistent pain.

In addition to private practice, Dr Cartwright provides anaesthesia and acute pain management services at both Tamworth Hospital and Tamara Private Hospital. She is the medical director of the Acute Pain Service at Tamworth Hospital, where she manages patients with complex acute pain and works to reduce the risk of transition to persistent pain.

Dr Cartwright is an active member of various professional societies, including the Australian Pain Society, the International Association for the Study of Pain, the Australian Society of Anaesthetists, the Neuromodulation Society of Australian and New Zealand, the International Neuromodulation Society, and the Medico-legal Society of NSW. She is also involved in the training of anaesthetists and in the work of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Anaesthetists.
