Dr Sam Young is an Australian and internationally trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in orthopaedic surgeries with a primary practice in Subiaco, Perth. He has a particular interest in reconstructive and trauma surgeries of the hip, knee, and shoulder, as well as complex primary and revision joint replacement surgeries and trauma surgeries.
Dr Young obtained his Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Western Australia in 2004. Subsequently, he completed his specialist orthopaedic training and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015.
Dr Young's passion for complex reconstruction and revision surgery led him to travel to various centers to enhance his skills. He worked with Professor Paul Smith in a high-volume joint replacement unit in Canberra, where he gained expertise in pelvic and acetabular fracture surgery. He then moved to Brisbane to further his skills under the guidance of Professor Ross Crawford, obtaining training in robotic joint replacement.
To expand his knowledge internationally, Dr Young completed the adult joint replacement fellowship at University Hospital in London, Ontario. This renowned fellowship exposed him to a North American perspective on joint replacement surgery and revision. He also received training in hip resurfacing for young sportsmen and anterior approach hip replacement.
