Dr Rowan Keighran is a psychiatrist with a broad range of clinical interests. He obtained his medical degree with Honours from the University of New South Wales and completed his formative years as a doctor at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney. It was during this time that he developed a keen interest in psychiatry. After a year studying at language schools in Europe, Dr Keighran returned to Sydney to begin his training in psychiatry.
Dr Keighran's training included rotations at the Black Dog Institute and the Neuropsychiatric Institute, where he gained valuable experience in complex disorders that bridge the gap between psychiatry and neurology. He further specialized in psychiatry of old age and gained extensive experience in complex diagnostic memory assessments. Dr Keighran completed his advanced training in neuropsychiatry and was awarded a fellowship in intellectual disability mental health by the New South Wales Institute of Psychiatry.
Throughout his career, Dr Keighran has been actively involved in medical teaching, mentoring medical students, junior doctors, and psychiatric trainees. He is currently a Conjoint Associate Lecturer at the University of New South Wales. In 2015, he was awarded a Master of Psychiatry with Director's List of Academic Excellence.
Dr Keighran's clinical interests encompass a wide range of neuropsychiatric conditions, including ADHD, anxiety disorders, autism spectrum disorders, bipolar disorder, brain injury, dementia-related disorders, depression, developmental disability, epilepsy, obsessive-compulsive disorders, psychosis, and schizophrenia. He has expertise in intellectual disability mental health, dementia and cognitive disorders, ADHD, seizure disorders, traumatic brain injury, and complex general psychiatric consultation.
Outside of his medical career, Dr Keighran enjoys pursuing creative hobbies such as writing short stories and composing music. He also has a passion for traveling and photography. Dr Rowan Keighran is currently a Staff Specialist at the Neuropsychiatric Institute, Prince of Wales.
