Dr Richard Bonwick

Dr Richard Bonwick is a Consultant Psychiatrist based in Richmond, Melbourne. With over three decades of experience, he specializes in Old Age Psychiatry and has a particular interest in treating ageing veterans suffering from PTSD and its associated conditions.

Dr. Bonwick obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry (FRANZCP) in 1995. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Older Veterans’ Psychiatry Program at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital as a Consultant Psychiatrist. He served in this role until 2013 when he was appointed the Medical Director of The Melbourne Clinic.

Currently, Dr. Bonwick holds the position of Program Director of the Old Age Psychiatry Unit and the TMS Service at The Melbourne Clinic. This allows him to offer psychiatric care and treatment to patients of all ages who seek his expertise.

Dr. Bonwick has made significant contributions to the field of psychiatry throughout his career. He is actively involved in various committees of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), notably the Finance Committee. Additionally, he serves as a member of the Victorian Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age Committee. In recognition of his expertise, Dr. Bonwick joined the Practitioner Support Service of Phoenix Australia (National Centre for Posttraumatic mental health) in 2018.

Renowned for his knowledge and experience, Dr. Bonwick has been invited to speak at numerous national and international conferences and seminars. He has also authored a chapter in the book titled “Psychosis in the Elderly”. In 2006, his groundbreaking work in treating PTSD in elderly war veterans was featured in the ABC-TV documentary "Walking Wounded" on the Compass program.
