Dr Rainer Fröhling is an experienced radiation oncologist specialising in the treatment of various types of cancer. Currently based at the Icon Cancer Centre in Rockingham, Perth, Western Australia, Dr Fröhling brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his practice.
Dr Fröhling completed his medical studies at the University of Pretoria, where he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB). He then pursued specialist oncology training at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. He is a fellow of the South African College of Radiation Oncologists and a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR).
Prior to establishing his practice in Australia, Dr Fröhling gained extensive experience in the field of radiation oncology in South Africa. He worked as a radiation oncologist and clinical research physician at GVI Oncology (now Cancercare) and Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital until 2019. During this time, he also held the position of Director at Dr R. Fröhling and Partners Inc., a private oncology practice located within Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital. Dr Fröhling is skilled in utilizing various radiation therapy techniques, including external beam radiotherapy, stereotactic radiation therapy, volumetric modulated arc radiation therapy (VMAT), and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).
Dr Fröhling's clinical experience covers a broad range of solid tumor malignancies. He has a special interest in the treatment of breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, and skin cancers. His dedication to medical education and research is evident through his previous involvement as a principal and sub-investigator in phase III and phase IV clinical trials. Additionally, Dr Fröhling has played a crucial role in teaching and supervising registrars at the University of Cape Town during his time at Groote Schuur Hospital.
In addition to English, Dr Fröhling is fluent in Afrikaans and German, which allows him to effectively communicate with a diverse patient population.
