Dr Nicholas Bucknell is a highly skilled and knowledgeable radiation oncologist based at Icon Cancer Centre Rockingham in Perth, Western Australia. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the prestigious University of Western Australia in 2012. Dr Bucknell then underwent specialist radiation oncology training in Victoria and Tasmania.
To further enhance his expertise, Dr Bucknell pursued a clinical research fellowship at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, where he gained extensive experience in managing various types of cancer. In 2021, he attained fellowship status from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR). He also held a radiation oncology position at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre during this time.
Dr Bucknell has a strong passion for clinical research and trials, with a particular focus on lung cancer and stereotactic ablative radiation therapy (SABR). He dedicates himself to a combination of clinical work, contributing to leading national and international publications and conferences, and actively participating in regular multidisciplinary meetings with his esteemed colleagues.
In addition to his role at Icon, Dr Bucknell is also a radiation oncologist at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. He is a valued member of several renowned cancer trial groups, including the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO), and Trans Tasman Oncology Group (TROG).
Dr Bucknell's contributions to the medical field have been recognized through prestigious awards and research grants. These include the Varian Prize for the best trainee oral presentation at the 2018 annual scientific meeting hosted by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), as well as the Withers and Peters Scholarship in 2021.
His clinical experience encompasses a wide range of solid tumor malignancies, with a special interest in lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, colorectal cancer, skin cancer, brain cancer, spinal (CNS) cancer, and stereotactic radiation therapy. Dr Bucknell's dedication to providing high-quality patient care and advancing the field of radiation oncology makes him an invaluable asset to the medical community.
