Dr Peter Annear

Dr Peter Annear is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in foot, knee, paediatric, and ankle surgeries. With over 20 years of experience, he obtained his FRACS (Orth) in 1994 after training in Western Australia. He furthered his expertise with advanced training in knee and paediatric knee surgery at international centres in London, Portland, and Melbourne.

Dr Annear currently works at POSM and holds a public hospital appointment where he teaches medical students and trains orthopaedic surgeons. He has been a faculty member for both national and international knee meetings, and for the past 15 years, he has served as the knee surgeon for the Australian Women's Olympic Hockey Team and the West Coast Eagles Football Club. He has recently started appointments with the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers Women's Football teams.

As an experienced surgeon, Dr Annear has a particular interest in ACL reconstruction, lower limb sports surgery (including groin and hamstring surgery), lower limb arthritis surgery, and paediatric orthopaedics. He has developed innovative techniques such as double bundle hamstring ACL reconstructions and HYBRID techniques, which combine synthetic and hamstring grafts. He also focuses on preserving the ACL remnant for accelerated recovery. Dr Annear has expertise in MPFL stabilizing surgery for dislocating patella and paediatric patella dislocation.

With extensive experience in total knee replacements and partial knee replacements, Dr Annear utilizes robotic technology to enhance these surgeries, aiming for better early and long-term outcomes. He also specializes in proximal hamstring repairs and has developed scoring and rehabilitation techniques.

Research plays a key role in Dr Annear's practice, and he offers patients the opportunity to participate in ongoing research studies. He has published numerous articles on topics related to ACL and knee surgery and is dedicated to advancing the field through research and teaching.
