Dr Mark McDonald

Dr Mark McDonald is a highly skilled ophthalmologist with extensive training and experience in general surgery, neurosurgery, and ophthalmology. After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Queensland, Dr McDonald went on to complete his internship residency at the Royal Canberra Hospital before undertaking advanced training in general surgery and neurosurgery in Australia and South Africa.

Dr McDonald’s passion for ophthalmology led him to complete his ophthalmic training in Adelaide and Melbourne, and he has since been practicing Ophthalmology in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions since 2003. As a senior visiting medical officer at Wollongong and Shoalhaven hospitals, and with busy private practices in Nowra and Kiama, Dr McDonald is dedicated to providing the best possible care to his patients across a range of specialties.

Dr McDonald has a particular interest in the latest techniques in small incision cataract surgery and has expertise in treating glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease. His commitment to advancing the field of ophthalmology is reflected in his publications in local and international peer-reviewed journals.

Under Dr McDonald's leadership, South Coast Ophthalmology, with clinics in Nowra and Kiama, offers comprehensive eye care services to the Shoalhaven and Illawarra communities. With his expertise and experience, Dr McDonald is committed to providing the highest quality care to all his patients.
