A/Prof Mark Adams

A/Prof Mark Adams is a highly accomplished cardiologist with a specialization in interventional cardiology. Known for his exceptional patient care, research, and teaching abilities, he is based in Newtown, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Having obtained his MBBS degree with first-class honours from the University of Sydney in 1987, A/Prof Adams undertook his general cardiology training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He then pursued his research interests, earning a PhD at the Heart Research Institute and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. His doctoral research focused on cellular mechanisms in the early development of coronary atherosclerosis, for which he was awarded the Ralph Reader Prize in 1996.

To further enhance his expertise, A/Prof Adams embarked on a post-doctoral program in Interventional Cardiology at the renowned Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard University in Boston. With this additional training, he returned to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in 1999 as an interventional cardiologist. Throughout his career, A/Prof Adams has been a pioneer in complex percutaneous coronary interventions, percutaneous valvular interventions, and coronary artery function and physiology. He has also demonstrated expertise in atherosclerosis and endothelial function, including the use of intravascular ultrasound.
