A/Prof Michele McGrady

A/Prof Michele McGrady is an accomplished general cardiologist with a special interest in heart failure, rheumatic heart disease, and echocardiography. She completed her general cardiology training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and holds a PhD from Monash University, where she focused on the epidemiology of heart failure in high-risk populations. Her research was supported by NHMRC and National Heart Foundation Scholarships.

In addition to her clinical work, A/Prof McGrady is committed to education and teaching. She is an instructor for the DETECT course, which is a part of the Clinical Excellence Commission's strategy for identifying and managing deteriorating patients. Furthermore, she trains and supervises trainee cardiac sonographers in the practice undertaking graduate training.

A/Prof McGrady's research interests include screening and early diagnosis of heart failure, particularly in patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. She is also involved in delivering cardiac care to remote Indigenous communities in the Tanami Desert and Barkley regions of Central Australia as a remote area physician and cardiologist, making four visits per year.

Prior to her career in medicine, A/Prof McGrady worked as a cardiothoracic and transplant nurse in the UK. Upon moving to Sydney in 1989, she continued her clinical work as a clinical nurse specialist in Cardiology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital while undertaking her medical degree, which she completed in 1998.
