Dr Jay Amaranath

Dr. Jeevaka Amaranath, also known as Jay, is an accomplished orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow surgeries. Dr. Amaranath has extensive experience in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgeries of the upper limbs, making him a highly sought after professional. His patient-centred approach is admired by patients and colleagues alike, for incorporating the individual’s needs and expectations to deliver the most up-to-date treatments and options.

Dr. Amaranath’s education and training in orthopaedics were wholly obtained in Australia. He completed his first upper limb fellowship at the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group. During this fellowship, he treated sports-related injuries of the upper limb, using minimally invasive techniques and shoulder and elbow arthroplasty. While at Melbourne Orthopaedic Group, Dr. Amaranath developed a passion for complex upper limb trauma.

To advance his knowledge and skills in upper limb surgery, Dr. Amaranath underwent a further subspecialty fellowship training in Europe. Here, he worked with renowned orthopaedic surgeons, Professor Christian Gerber and A/Prof Karl Wieser at Balgrist University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Amaranath’s learning in Switzerland involved advanced techniques using 3D modelled patient-specific shoulder arthroplasty, tendon transfers, and complex shoulder arthroscopy.

During his training in Europe, Dr. Amaranath worked as a visiting upper limb fellow at Rennes University Hospital in Rennes, France, and the Shoulder Unit at Santy Orthopaedic Centre in Lyon, France. At these hospitals, he learned the latest in the use of virtual reality technology for total shoulder replacements from two of the leading upper limb surgeons in Europe, Dr. Philippe Colin and Dr. Lionel Neyton.

With his training and unique access to a wealth of knowledge, modern techniques, and different approaches in upper limb surgery, Dr. Amaranath offers his patients a high standard of care and clinical judgement. He provides personalized care and is an expert in arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine, joint replacement surgery, and adult and paediatric trauma.
