Dr Helen Crowther is a reputable Haematologist at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals in Western Sydney, where she specialises in the treatment of blood disorders. She has earned the prestigious title of Senior Lecturer in Haematology at the University of Western Sydney, where she actively educates medical students and professionals in the field.
Dr Crowther began her medical career as a graduate of the first cohort of the Sydney University Graduate Medical Program. She then pursued her postgraduate training in Western Sydney, where she received comprehensive training in all aspects of haematology. After completing her memberships with the Australasian Royal College of Physicians and Pathologists, she advanced her education further and spent a significant amount of time in Toronto studying red cell disorders and thrombosis.
As a passionate researcher, Dr Crowther is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Sydney’s Centre for Values, Ethics and Law in Medicine. Her dissertation is focused on examining the process of evidence integration in medical decision-making in patients with haemoglobinopathies, in which she combines her medical and academic expertise to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application. Her research has direct implications for developing effective treatment plans for her patients with blood disorders.
Dr Crowther has also undertaken various research initiatives to study the health, services and quality of life of patients with haemoglobinopathies in New South Wales, using her findings to develop personalised treatment plans for her patients.
Her noteworthy achievements have not only earned her a reputable name in her field but also have contributed towards improving optimal health outcomes among her patients.
