A/Prof Gus Gonzalvo

Mr Gonzalvo is a highly skilled Neurosurgeon with a focus on Spinal Surgery. He has completed three years of combined neurosurgery and orthopaedic spinal fellowships, making him one of the few surgeons in Australia with this unique training. Mr Gonzalvo's expertise lies in performing microsurgery and keyhole surgery of the spine, as well as complex reconstructive interventions for spinal fractures and deformities, and congenital malformations of the craniovertebral junction. With over 300 spinal procedures annually, Mr Gonzalvo is experienced in performing keyhole decompression and microdiscectomy, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, cervical and lumbar decompression, lumbar fusion, spinal fractures and tumours, spinal deformity, and microsurgery of the craniovertebral junction.

Mr Gonzalvo's research has been published in highly respected journals, including Spine, Neurosurgery, and Journal of Neurosurgery. He is currently the Director of Neurosurgery at Austin Health and a Visiting Neurosurgeon at the Northern Hospital - both of which are affiliated with The University of Melbourne. He takes great pride in teaching medical students, residents, registrars, and fellows. Through his work, Mr Gonzalvo has made significant contributions to the field of Neurosurgery and is committed to providing the highest quality care to his patients.
