Dr Chamil Dayajeewa is an esteemed Ophthalmologist based in Canberra, Australia, with a primary practicing suburb in Bruce. With a wealth of experience and a strong educational background, Dr Dayajeewa specialises in cataract surgery, medical retina, and glaucoma.
Dr Dayajeewa graduated from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka in 2000, where he commenced his specialist training in Ophthalmology. He successfully completed his basic and advanced training in Ophthalmology in 2007. Following his training in Sri Lanka, Dr Dayajeewa furthered his expertise in the United Kingdom with two years of fellowship training in General Ophthalmology. During this time, he gained valuable experience in various areas such as cataract, glaucoma, and medical retina conditions including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and uveitis.
After completing his fellowship training, Dr Dayajeewa returned to Sri Lanka to work as a General Ophthalmologist in a regional hospital. He dedicated almost three years to providing comprehensive care for a remote community. In 2013, Dr Dayajeewa immigrated to Australia and joined Canberra Hospital as an Ophthalmologist. He currently serves as a Staff Specialist at the hospital and also plays a role in teaching at the Australian National University (ANU).
Dr Dayajeewa holds Fellowships from the Sri Lankan College of Ophthalmologists (COSL), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG), and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO). He now offers private consultations at his state-of-the-art clinic, known as "Canberra Vision Clinic," located in Suite 6 at The Calvary Clinic, opposite the Emergency Department of Calvary Hospital.
Dr Dayajeewa provides comprehensive care for patients with various ophthalmic conditions. His services include treating eye emergencies, performing surgeries for cataracts, pterygia, and lid pathologies, administering intravitreal anti-VEGF injections for wet macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic maculopathy, and retinal vein occlusions. He also specialises in treating glaucoma, uveitis, medical retina conditions, neuro-ophthalmic conditions, and other general ophthalmic conditions.
