Dr Brian Harrisberg

Dr Brian Harrisberg is a highly skilled and experienced ophthalmologist based in Sydney, Australia. With a primary practice in the suburb of Newtown, Dr Harrisberg has built a reputation as one of the country's leading specialists in the field.

Dr Harrisberg obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of the Witswatersrand in South Africa in 1982. He later emigrated to Australia and completed his medical and surgical residency at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. During this time, he developed a keen interest in ophthalmology. He went on to undertake specialty training and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO) in 1991.

Throughout his career, Dr Harrisberg has focused on cataract and refractive surgery, performing numerous vision correction procedures with outstanding results. He is considered an expert in the field and has been involved in trialling and developing new technologies. In particular, he is highly regarded as a key opinion leader on intraocular lens design.

Internationally recognized, Dr Harrisberg is frequently invited to speak at prestigious conferences both within Australia and overseas. He has also published multiple research papers in peer-reviewed journals and actively participates in international multicenter clinical trials in collaboration with esteemed institutions such as Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, the Brain & Mind Research Institute, and Sydney Cancer Centre.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Harrisberg has served as the former head of ophthalmology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He derives great satisfaction from mentoring ophthalmology registrars, medical students, as well as endocrinology fellows and trainees through their respective colleges and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital teaching program.

With over 30 years of experience, Dr Harrisberg has developed a close working relationship with The Diabetes Centre at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He collaborates with endocrinologists to provide comprehensive treatment for complex diabetic eye disease.
