Dr. Balan Iyngkaran is a highly skilled and experienced Cardiologist based in Hoppers Crossing, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Adelaide in 1997 and went on to pursue further specialization in the field of cardiology.

Dr. Iyngkaran completed his basic cardiology training at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, South Australia in 2003. Subsequently, he undertook additional training in echocardiography and general cardiology at the National Heart Centre in Singapore, further enhancing his expertise. In 2006, he returned to Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia, where he completed his cardiology specialist qualification awarded by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2007.

With a passion for research, Dr. Iyngkaran embarked on a research fellowship at The Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, Victoria in 2008. Here, he dedicated 2.5 years to studying heart failure and kidney impairment, focusing on the effects of uremic toxins on heart function and identifying novel kidney biomarkers.

In 2011, Dr. Iyngkaran assumed the role of Staff Cardiologist at the Royal Darwin Hospital and Alice Springs Hospital in the Northern Territory. During his time there, he initiated and supervised three ethics-approved research projects in collaboration with esteemed institutions such as the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and the Flinders Human Behaviour and Health Research Unit. The research explored the health journey and self-management of Indigenous patients, as well as post-marketing studies on heart failure.

Returning to Melbourne in 2015, Dr. Iyngkaran currently maintains a busy clinical practice while also serving as a Senior Lecturer at Flinders University Northern Territory Medical School. His research interests primarily revolve around heart failure and aim to bridge the clinical gaps in areas such as self-management, disease management programs, clinical audits, and evidence-based research in the western region. Through his research, Dr. Iyngkaran has been honored with multiple awards and scholarships, including the prestigious Australian Postgraduate Award, RACP Fellows Contribution Award, and Heart Foundation and Health Professional Scholarship.

Dr. Iyngkaran's contributions to the field of cardiology extend beyond clinical practice and research. He is an esteemed editor for various cardiac journals and has authored numerous research articles, book chapters, and an editorial series. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, further solidifying his reputation as an esteemed professional in his field.
