A/Prof Alistair Reid

Clinical Associate Professor Alistair Reid is a highly qualified Rheumatologist who resides in the Illawarra with his young family. He has extensive experience in treating patients with diverse rheumatological conditions, with a particular focus on inflammatory conditions and infections/infection prevention in immunocompromised individuals. Alistair holds VMO appointments at both Wollongong Private Hospital and Nowra Private Hospital, and he also consults from rooms at Seaview Clinic located within Wollongong Private Hospital.

Alistair's journey to becoming a leading Rheumatologist began when he grew up in Tasmania and completed his specialty training in Melbourne. Later in 2012, he moved to Illawarra with his family to take up the position of a staff specialist at Wollongong Hospital as an Infectious Diseases Physician. Ever since then, he has fallen in love with the stunning Illawarra coastline and now proudly calls it home.

With his passionate dedication to teaching and excellence in the health industry, Alistair was appointed as Director of Physician Training at Wollongong Hospital in 2013 and later became the first Network Director of Physician Training for the Illawarra Medical Network. Through these roles, he was able to contribute significantly to the evolution and development of medical services across the Illawarra region.

To further increase his involvement in the healthcare industry, Alistair recently accepted an appointment as Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong Graduate School of Medicine, where he can share his experience with future doctors.

Alistair's qualifications include a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours from the University of Tasmania, a Bachelor of Medical Science from the same institution, and F.R.A.C.P with sub-specialty training in Infectious Diseases and Rheumatology. Notably, Alistair is the only dual-trained Rheumatologist and Infectious Diseases physician in Australia and holds several positions with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Alistair's approach to patient care is centered on teamwork, communication, and a patient-centered approach, ensuring that his clients receive comprehensive medical examination and treatment in an atmosphere of care and mutual trust.
