Dr Ales Aliashkevich's profile

Dr. Ales Aliashkevich is a renowned neurosurgeon with over 26 years of experience in the field. He specialises in the surgical treatment of disorders affecting the brain, spine, and peripheral nerves. Dr. Aliashkevich is a strong believer in conservative treatments and non-operative interventions. He strives to avoid surgery whenever possible by incorporating lifestyle modifications and exploring alternative therapies. However, when surgery is necessary, he relies on minimally invasive 'keyhole' surgeries, which provide a better alternative to traditional procedures. His decade-long experience in image-guided and robotic surgery has established the validity of this approach, and it is increasingly replacing spinal fusions with motion-preserving interventions that are more time-effective and deliver higher patient satisfaction in the long run.

Dr. Aliashkevich's expertise extends to spinal and peripheral nerve surgeries, which includes minimally invasive approaches to complex spine surgeries. He is also adept at treating back, neck, sciatic leg pain, and cervical radiculopathy. Additionally, he performs surgeries for spinal canal stenosis and myelopathy, as well as spinal tumors and vascular malformations. Dr. Aliashkevich also offers carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve surgeries.

In the field of vascular neurosurgery, Dr. Aliashkevich specialises in treating cerebral aneurysms and vascular malformations. He also performs surgeries to treat brain and spinal tumors like gliomas, metastases, and meningiomas. He is experienced in pituitary surgery, and surgeries for epilepsy.

Dr. Aliashkevich received his Doctor of Medicine with a grade “magna cum laude” from the Rhine Friedrich-Wilhelms University of Bonn, Germany, in 1997. He completed his neurosurgical specialist training in Bonn, Germany, and received his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) by the Specialist Training Authority (STA) of the Royal College of Surgeons, United Kingdom. He also completed his Cerebrovascular Fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, following which he worked as a consultant neurosurgeon in Wellington, New Zealand. He is also a Senior Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago, Wellington.

Dr. Aliashkevich offers semi-urgent appointments, same-day reports, and welcomes workcover and TAC patients. He provides medicolegal reports and consults at 10 locations.
