Dr Alby Elias

Dr Alby Elias is a psychiatrist based in Melbourne, Victoria. He completed his medical degree (MBBS) at the University of Calicut, Kerala and India, followed by a Doctor of Medicine (MD) specializing in psychiatry from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India.

After moving to Australia in 2006, Dr Elias obtained a fellowship from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He also earned an advanced certificate in geriatric psychiatry. With over 10 years of clinical experience, Dr Elias has developed a special interest in electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and dementia.

Dr Elias further honed his expertise in ECT by completing a visiting fellowship at the University of Columbia, College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. His research within this field has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and he has also presented his work to the International Society of ECT and Neurostimulation.

In addition to his focus on ECT, Dr Elias has carried out research in other areas, particularly dementia, neuroimaging, schizophrenia, depression, and psychopharmacology. His papers on these subjects have been published in various academic journals.

Currently, Dr Elias is actively participating in intervention trials for Alzheimer's disease with Austin Health. He is also committed to professional development and serves as a committee member for various organizations, including the Therapeutic Interventions and Evidence Based Practice committee of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
