Dr Thilini Jayasooriya

Dr. Thilini Jayasooriya is a Consultant Psychiatrist based in the North-Western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. With over 12 years of experience in Clinical Psychiatry, she works in both the public and private sectors, providing comprehensive mental health care to her patients.

Dr. Jayasooriya obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2006. She later pursued postgraduate training in Psychiatry, earning her MD (Psychiatry) degree. In 2020, she received Specialist Recognition from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, further solidifying her expertise in the field.

Her professional interests cover a wide range of mental health issues, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, ADHD, youth mental health, women’s mental health, comorbid addiction disorders, and personality disorders. Dr. Jayasooriya is skilled in the evaluation and management of conditions such as addiction, ADHD, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, psychosis, and schizophrenia.

Dr. Jayasooriya provides compassionate and individualized care to patients across different age groups. She specializes in treating adults between the ages of 18 and 60, older adults aged 60 and above, as well as young people aged 16 to 24. Her experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and utilizing interpreters allows her to effectively communicate and understand the unique needs of each patient.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Jayasooriya is experienced in working with families, especially when treating young people. She understands the importance of involving families in the treatment process to provide comprehensive support and improve outcomes.

Dr. Jayasooriya is also able to offer telehealth services, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for her patients. She is proficient in English and Sinhala, allowing her to provide care to individuals who speak these languages.
