Dr Sonja Schleimer

Dr. Sonja Schleimer is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgeries. She is based in Palm Beach, 4221 on the Gold Coast. Dr. Schleimer operates at the Gold Coast Private Hospital and John Flynn Private Hospital. She is fluent in English and German.

Dr. Schleimer completed her Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours at the University of Sydney in 2001. She then went on to earn her MBBS with honors from the same university in 2006. Dr. Schleimer continued her education and obtained a PhD in Medicine from the University of Sydney in 2006. In 2016, she became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery. Additionally, Dr. Schleimer completed a fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery from 2017 to 2018.

Dr. Schleimer began her career in Queensland in 2010 at the Gold Coast University Hospital, where she received her orthopaedic training. She later worked as a staff specialist at Logan Bayside Hospital. She then pursued further specialization in advanced foot and ankle courses, including MIS foot surgery, at the Charité Hospital in Berlin, Germany. Dr. Schleimer also traveled to France to expand her knowledge in Minimally Invasive Foot Surgery under the guidance of a pioneer in the field.

Currently, Dr. Schleimer serves as a staff specialist at the Gold Coast University Hospital and operates privately at the Gold Coast Private and John Flynn Hospitals. She is an active member of several professional associations, including the Australian Orthopaedic Association and the Australian Ankle and Foot Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Schleimer is also a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Dr. Schleimer has a strong passion for research and has been involved in various projects aimed at improving surgical techniques and outcomes for foot and ankle surgeries.
