A/Prof Raphael Chee is an accomplished Radiation Oncologist based in Joondalup, Perth, Western Australia. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University Of Western Australia (UWA) in 1996 and completed his formative years at Royal Perth Hospital (RPH).
Dr Chee began his medical career as a voluntary surgical registrar at a major teaching hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal. However, his interest in radiation oncology was sparked during his relief registrar term at RPH, ultimately leading him to pursue a career in this field. He commenced his training in radiation oncology at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and went on to complete his training at the prestigious Peter MacCallum Cancer & Research Institute in Melbourne.
To further enhance his expertise, Dr Chee completed a fellowship in image-guided radiotherapy and gynaecology/brachytherapy at the Austin Hospital in Heidelberg, Victoria. He has since returned to Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute as a consultant and has assumed the role of Director of Radiation Oncology at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in 2011.
Dr Chee is actively involved in various professional organizations and committees in the field of radiation oncology. He is a member of the Faculty Council at the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) and serves on its Economics & Workforce Committee. Additionally, he has held positions such as the Radiation Oncology Training Network Director for WA and acted as Director of Training at SCGH and RPH. He has also contributed to important projects like the WA Comprehensive Cancer Centre Stage 2 and the WA Cyberknife project. In 2010, he took on the role of convener for the RANZCR annual scientific meeting held in Perth.
Dr Chee is highly regarded for his expertise in gynecological radiation oncology and has special interests in brachytherapy, stereotactic radiotherapy/radiosurgery, image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), and technical aspects of radiation therapy. He is noted for his proficiency in highly conformal treatment techniques.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Chee is involved in academic activities at UWA's School of Surgery as an assistant professor, tutor, and examiner for medical students. With his extensive experience and dedication to the field, Dr Raphael Chee continues to make valuable contributions to the field of radiation oncology in Western Australia.
