Dr Ralph Stanford

Dr. Ralph Stanford is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in disorders of the adult spine. With over two decades of experience, he offers comprehensive advice and performs surgical interventions to treat various conditions such as degenerative diseases, tumors, trauma, infection, inflammatory conditions, and deformities.

Dr. Stanford obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Tasmania in 1988. He further pursued a Bachelor of Medical Science and completed his PhD at the University of New South Wales in 2002. He became a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 2003, following completion of a Surgical Fellowship in Orthopaedics from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and an advanced spinal fellowship from the University Hospitals of Cleveland.

As a dedicated educator, Dr. Stanford serves as a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales and conducts weekly tutorials with undergraduate students at the hospital. He also supervises the training of orthopaedic trainees at Prince of Wales Hospital and holds the position of Education Secretary for the Spine Society of Australia. Dr. Stanford's commitment to teaching has been recognized with awards, including being voted Clinical Teacher of the Year and recently being acknowledged for his long-term contribution to teaching at the Prince of Wales clinical school.

Driven by his passion for research, Dr. Stanford is an Honorary Senior Scientist at Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) and has authored numerous publications in the field of spine surgery. He has previously held the position of Chair of the board of the Spinal Cord Injury Network, highlighting his dedication to advancing knowledge and understanding in this area.

Dr. Stanford is currently affiliated with Prince of Wales Hospital and Prince of Wales Private Hospital. At Prince of Wales Hospital, he plays a significant role in the management of spinal cord injury and actively participates in committees responsible for spinal cord injury at the local, regional, and state levels. Through his clinical expertise and extensive experience, Dr. Stanford provides personalized and timely care to his patients, helping them regain mobility and enhance their quality of life. He is committed to advancing the field of spine surgery and ensuring that each patient receives the highest level of care and attention.
