A/Prof Harvie has a wide range of professional interests, including MAKO Robotic Hip and Knee replacement, Revision Hip and Knee replacement, Knee arthroscopy, Hip arthroscopy, and Radiofrequency ablation of the hip and knee.
He has received various awards for his work, including publications in prestigious journals such as J Arthroplasty, Hip International, ANZ J Surg, Skeletal Radiology, and more. Some of his research examines topics like outcomes and learning curve effects in surgeons transitioning from other surgical approaches, the use of tranexamic acid in reducing transfusion rates, best practices for introducing new orthopaedic implants, and the validation of CT assessment for hip component orientation, among others.
Throughout his career, A/Prof Harvie has received several awards and scholarships, including The Trueta Prize from the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, the John Charnley Trust Fellowship Award, the John Goodfellow Travelling Prize from the University of Oxford, and the Girdlestone Memorial Scholarship in Orthopaedic Surgery, among others.
