Dr Michael Guiney

Dr. Michael Guiney is an accomplished radiation oncologist based in Melbourne, Australia. He graduated from Melbourne University in 1979 and continued advanced training in Medical Oncology to become a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 1986. Subsequently, he pursued his Fellowship in Radiation Oncology at Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute (PMCI) in 1988, where he also served as a Staff Specialist until 1998.

During his tenure at PMCI, Dr. Guiney spearheaded the Gastroenterological Unit, and his leadership enabled the institute to advance in cancer research and treatment. He played a pivotal role in improving patient outcomes in gastrointestinal malignancies.

In 1991, Dr. Guiney co-founded GenesisCare Radiation Oncology Victoria, a leading oncology center in Melbourne. He currently serves as a Consultant Radiation Oncologist at GenesisCare, and he also holds Visiting Medical Specialist positions in Melbourne Private and St Vincent's Private Hospitals.

Dr. Guiney's clinical interests span over neurological, gastrointestinal, and breast malignancies. He is particularly passionate about utilizing cutting-edge treatments for these types of cancer, and he remains dedicated to providing the best possible care to his patients.

Notably, he is a key participant in the Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) program designed to treat prostate cancer at GenesisCare. This advanced treatment approach allows for more precise targeted radiation, minimizing the impact on healthy surrounding tissues.
