Dr Manuja Premaratne

Dr. Manuja Premaratne is a greatly respected and knowledgeable Cardiologist based in Frankston, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. With a special interest in chest pain and appropriate use of imaging in chest pain, as well as coronary artery disease in women and patients from non-English speaking backgrounds, and valvular disease, Dr. Premaratne provides expert care to his patients.

Dr. Premaratne has an impressive list of qualifications, including a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS). He went on to achieve board certification in Cardiac Computed Tomography in 2017 and became a fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand in 2016. Additionally, he gained a fellowship in the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography in 2015 and completed an Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellowship at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute from 2013 to 2015.

With over 18 years of experience in the medical field, Dr. Premaratne is renowned for his expertise in non-interventional cardiology. He is skilled in all clinical cardiac imaging modalities and has undergone extensive training in various cardiac imaging techniques, including nuclear cardiology (SPECT and PET), Cardiac CT, and MRI. Impressively, he is one of only ten Australian cardiologists to hold board certification in Cardiac CT from the United States.

Dr. Premaratne's hard work and dedication have been recognized through numerous awards, including acknowledgement as one of the top ten researchers in the USA and Canada in the field of cardiac imaging in 2014. He has also authored book chapters and published numerous scientific papers on cardiac imaging, making him a sought-after peer reviewer for top cardiac imaging journals. Additionally, he has shared his expertise by addressing the congress of the US on Appropriate Use Criteria in Cardiac Imaging.

Currently, Dr. Premaratne is the Head of Cardiac Imaging at Peninsula Health, where he has made significant improvements to the service. He is internationally renowned for his excellence in the field and actively collaborates with Siemens as a luminary site partner to lead groundbreaking research in cardiac CT for the next generation. He also serves on the scientific meeting planning committee for the Society of Cardiac CT and maintains close relationships with other international scientific communities.

As a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), Dr. Premaratne mentors trainees and acts as an examiner for the RACP and Monash University Medical School. His patient-centered approach ensures that each individual receives appropriate care and actively participates in their treatment plan.

In addition to his role at Peninsula Health, Dr. Premaratne holds hospital appointments at Peninsula Private Hospital and is the Head of Cardiac Imaging at Frankston Hospital. His extensive experience and commitment to providing excellent care make him one of Australia's most esteemed Cardiologists.
