Dr Louis W Wang

Dr Louis W Wang is a highly skilled and experienced clinical cardiologist specialising in Vascular Medicine. He currently serves as the Director of Physician Education (DPE) at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, along with his role as a consultant cardiologist and general physician at Sydney Hospital.

Dr Wang obtained his Bachelor of Science in Medicine and Bachelor of Medicine, both with first-class honors, from the University of New South Wales (UNSW). He also holds a PhD for his pioneering research in high frequency echocardiography, further establishing his expertise in the field.

With a strong background in clinical medicine and translational science, Dr Wang has made significant contributions to the medical profession. His clinical interests encompass a broad range of areas, including general cardiology, heart failure, anticoagulation, perioperative medicine, and the management of venous thromboembolism (deep vein thrombosis / pulmonary embolism).

He was also a finalist for the American Heart Association FGTB Young Investigator Award and the CSANZ Ralph Reader Prize for Basic Science in 2017, and received the Society for Vascular Medicine Alan T Hirsch Award in 2018.

Aside from his clinical and research commitments, Dr Wang is passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals. He actively supports the professional development of medical students, junior medical officers, and registrars. As an educational leader at the St Vincent’s Hospital campus, he has successfully implemented blended (online and face-to-face) teaching programs for medical registrars. He also delivers a comprehensive teaching program for final year UNSW medical students to help prepare them for their careers as junior doctors.
