Dr Lisa Capelle

Dr Lisa Capelle is a highly skilled and experienced Radiation Oncologist based in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. With a primary practice in Cairns, she is dedicated to providing exceptional medical care to her patients. Dr Capelle specialises in the treatment of various types of cancers, including head and neck, gastrointestinal, lung, and breast cancers.

Dr Capelle obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from the University of Auckland, New Zealand in 1999. She then completed her radiation oncology training at Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand, and achieved fellowship to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) in 2008.

In pursuit of further enhancing her expertise, Dr Capelle embarked on a two-year fellowship at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, Canada, which concluded in July 2011. During this period, she actively engaged in basic science research on the cellular effects of low dose radiation. Additionally, Dr Capelle conducted clinical research focusing on skin sparing radiotherapy for breast cancer and adaptive radiotherapy for head and neck cancer.

In May 2011, Dr Capelle attained her Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC). Subsequently, she served as a locum Assistant Clinical Professor in Radiation Oncology at the Cross Cancer Institute from October 2011 to September 2012, specialising in head and neck cancer and radionuclide therapy.

Since 2012, Dr Capelle has been a valued consultant for Icon Cancer Centre, where she consistently delivers outstanding care to her patients. Furthermore, she has held the position of Clinical Director of Cancer Care services for Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service since 2014, demonstrating her commitment to improving cancer care in the region.
